We used to own a restaurant together in Africa and some of our recipes are therefore rather tropical. Everything we make is plantbased, can be made gluten free, and utterly delicious. In addition, every dish is perfect for all of us living on a small sailboat, city flat, or cramped student accommodation. It goes without saying that if you live in Versailles you won't struggle either.

We also made a feature film together (before the restaurant) and cooked vegan for our entire crew (in New Mexico), for the entire duration of the shoot. No one ever complained...

Welcome to the blog of Josephine Bakerman, which is actually two people (Isabelle and Liesbeth). We decided to start sharing our recipes because they are so damn good and we don't want to be selfish.

Some recipes are authored by 'Vegan on a boat' and are by Isabelle only and specifically good for when you make small trips or large voyages at sea.


Why vegan? A plant-based diet is a more sustainable way of feeding the world as it requires only one third of the land needed to support a meat and dairy diet. It is also cruelty-free, delicious and healthy to boot.

Why gluten free? Alternatives like rice, potato, chickpeas, maize and cassava can be eaten by all of us who are, or are not, gluten sensitive. It's that simple. Enjoy!
